Pest Control

Goodbye Fruit Flies :

To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Get Rid of Ants:

Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it "home," can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works & you don't have the worry about
pets or small children being harmed!

Julie Notes: I've known that last one for years and have yet to see much result, but it is very possible that I just wasn't consistent enough, or that it rained a lot or something . . . I'm not sure how rain effect things, but maybe . . . I'll have to try again.

Also, my very favorite pest control item is the spider trap. These gluey traps attract poisonous spiders such as hobos and recluses. But they also attract annoying wolf spiders who are prone to bite and I can tell you, when they bite it really hurts.

These traps can be purchased at any Smiths Marketplace in the pest control aisle either near the cleaning supplies or sometimes near the gardening center. I've also seen them at Shopko.

They are non toxic and safer than sprays for a house full of kids or pets, though you still need to keep them tucked out of reach so no one gets stuck to one, they really can hold you.

(also some spiders like Hobos aren't affected by sprays, they are tough and can build immunity which causes problems because if you spray and kill off every spider in the house but the Hobos they will simply have more food and will thrive. The only way to take care of an infestation of these little creeps is to use the traps.)
